Deeper Christian Life Ministry has announced a major update to its guidelines on marriage, with its General Superintendent, Pastor William Kumuyi, clarifying that church policies are administrative tools and not biblical absolutes.
The revisions were unveiled at the 2025 Global Family and Marriage Conference. A key change removes the previous rule that forbade women from visiting their fiancés during their courtship. The church now permits such visits if a church elder is present, aiming to help couples build a stronger foundation before marriage.
Furthermore, Pastor Kumuyi addressed the church's customary six-month courtship period, stating it is a practical recommendation rather than a strict, scripture-based command. He emphasized that the duration is flexible and can be adjusted to suit individual couples.
Kumuyi also advised church marriage committees to avoid exerting excessive control over members, noting that such committees are a function of church administration and are not found in the New Testament.
These updates signal a significant evolution in the church's stance, prioritizing scriptural principles over rigid tradition and encouraging greater pastoral discretion.
