The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Nigeria has reissued the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates after discovering errors in the initial grading process. The mistakes affected students' scores in key subjects, prompting a review and subsequent correction.
Dr. Amos Dangut, WAEC’s Head of National Office, addressed the issue in a public statement, acknowledging the technical faults in the automated grading system. He apologized to students, parents, and schools for the inconvenience, confirming that the revised results now provide an accurate assessment of candidates’ performances.
The discrepancies primarily impacted subjects such as Mathematics, English Language, and the Sciences, with some students initially receiving lower grades than they earned. After receiving complaints, WAEC conducted a thorough audit and released updated results.
According to the new data, the overall pass rate has improved, with 73.9% of candidates now achieving credits or higher in at least five subjects, including English and Mathematics—up from the previously reported 68.5%. Students can check their updated results on WAEC’s official portal, www.waecdirect.org, using their exam details.
To prevent future errors, WAEC has upgraded its grading software and enhanced training for exam officers. The council has also extended the deadline for result inquiries to August 22, 2025, allowing affected candidates more time to resolve concerns.
WAEC encourages students and schools to review the revised results immediately and report any remaining issues through official channels. The council reaffirmed its dedication to upholding examination standards and ensuring fairness for all test-takers in the region.
