Heavy rainfall in Lagos and Port Harcourt on Monday morning caused significant delays to Air Peace's flight operations across its network.
In an official statement, the airline's spokesperson confirmed the disruptions, attributing them directly to the adverse weather conditions. The company emphasized that passenger safety is its core commitment and paramount concern, which necessitates such delays during poor weather.
"We appeal for your understanding as we manage these disruptions to the best of our ability and get you to your destinations safely," the statement read, acknowledging that weather is beyond its control.
This incident echoes a similar occurrence earlier in the month when the airline also cited heavy rain in Lagos for operational delays.
The announcement comes amid recent reinforced regulations from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). The authority has mandated that airlines must provide hotel accommodations for passengers who are stranded at the airport between 10:00 PM and 4:00 AM due to cancellations or significant delays.
An NCAA official warned that the era of airline staff abandoning frustrated passengers at terminals would no longer be tolerated. The authority vowed to apply full sanctions and publicly name carriers that fail to comply with aviation regulations, stressing that passenger welfare is a non-negotiable requirement for all operators.
