Gunmen suspected to be cult members have killed the President-General of Ogidi community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, alongside another person.
The community leader, Sir Ikwuka Okoye, also known as Anumili, was reportedly shot dead on Friday, February 6, at the Ogidi School Field. Another individual, believed to be a close relative of the victim, was also killed in the attack.
Community sources said the assailants were suspected members of a rival cult group, who allegedly carried out the attack in reprisal for the recent arrest and killing of their leader by local security operatives.
A resident, who requested anonymity, disclosed that the gunmen arrived at the School Field in the evening, opened fire on their targets, and fled the area immediately after the shooting.
As of the time of filing this report, the identity of the second victim has not been officially confirmed. Security agencies have also not released an official statement regarding the incident.
