Erling Haaland record: Manchester City striker breaks Premier League record for goals in a season

The Norwegian scored his 35th league goal of the season against West Ham, breaking the previous record of 34 set by Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole.

Haaland had already surpassed Mohamed Salah's 32 goals for Liverpool in 2017-18 in a 38-game season.

He now holds the overall record and has five games left to play.

Cole's 34 goals for Newcastle in 1993–94 were matched by Shearer's 34 goals for Blackburn the following year, however there were 22 clubs in the top flight in both seasons, giving them an extra four matches to play - Shearer started all 42 matches in his record season, while Cole missed two.

In his first season in English football, Haaland has set a new record in only his 31st game.
