The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel has called on officers in the command to sustain tempo and remain vigilant to ensure peace reigns in the state.
CP Gumel said he has directed the personnel to avert reckless driving among others in the name of wild celebration that could attract violent reaction from opposition parties.
CP Gumel stated this while speaking with newsmen on the aftermath of the Supreme Court judgment.
The Commissioner of Police however, attributed peace recorded in the state, before, during and after the Supreme Court verdict to the synergy and mutual understanding it enjoyed with sister security agencies, traditional institutions and religious leaders in the state.
According to him, “The management of security in Kano State have been one of the best over time. One of the reason is the approach we have always adopted in terms of community partnership, crime prevention strategies to tackle crimes before it happens. This has put us on our toes.
“Again, the level of collaboration with security agencies. It is one of the best. These are some of the success stories behind the strength of the police to tackle any form of insecurity in the state.
“Our excellent engagement with the traditional institutions and religious institutions, all sect and the christians. The relationship has been superb. Even today, you can testify this by the sermon delivered in the various mosque. All is just to put a call to members of the community to accept destiny. To accept the outcome of the court and that violence has no place in developmental project. Anybody who wishes Kano to develop will not allow violence.
“Earlier, I had meeting with our management, operation department to talk to all the Divisional Police Offices, DPOs and Area Commanders in the state capital and environs to sustain vigilance in all location. People may go into wild celebration or jubilation that to some extent may attract violent reaction from the oppositions.
“The people are advised to avoid reckless driving in the name of wild celebration that may attract violent reaction from the oppositions,” CP Gumel however stated.
