Nigeria's ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticized the newly formed opposition coalition, branding its members as "opportunistic and power-hungry" individuals with no real solutions for the country. The coalition, which has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform for the 2027 elections, was labeled a gathering of "failed politicians" in a statement by APC spokesperson Felix Morka.
Morka accused the group, led by former Senate President David Mark and ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, of prioritizing personal ambitions over national progress. He dismissed their recent public unveiling as a "shameless display of hypocrisy," alleging that the coalition's leaders have a history of undermining public trust.
The APC particularly targeted Mark’s speech at the coalition’s launch, calling it "empty rhetoric" filled with "false claims" against President Bola Tinubu’s government. Morka challenged the group to present concrete policy alternatives rather than relying on what he described as "desperate tactics" to regain political relevance.
"Their only agenda is a reckless pursuit of power, with no clear vision for Nigeria’s future," Morka stated. He further questioned whether the coalition could offer anything beyond criticism, pointing to what he called their "lack of ideological direction."
The sharp rebuke signals rising political tensions as the 2027 elections draw closer, with the APC positioning itself against what it views as a disjointed opposition.
