Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota, 28, has tragically died in a car accident in Spain, along with his younger brother André, 26, also a professional footballer.
According to reports, the fatal crash occurred on the A-52 highway in Zamora province when their vehicle left the road. The devastating news comes just two weeks after Jota married his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso, in a ceremony in Porto.
Prominent journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the tragedy, writing: "Marca reports Liverpool player Diogo Jota has passed away. We’re absolutely devastated."
Jota began his career at Paços de Ferreira before joining Atlético Madrid in 2016. After loan spells at Porto and Wolves, he helped secure Wolves' Premier League promotion and later moved to Liverpool in 2020 for £41 million.
A key player for Portugal, Jota earned caps at multiple youth levels before his senior debut in 2019. He competed in the 2022 World Cup, Euro 2020, and Euro 2024, and was part of Portugal’s Nations League-winning squads in 2019 and 2025.
