Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), has criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for improperly using the national Coat of Arms in official communications long after leaving office.
Keyamo stated that such actions violate the Flag and Coat of Arms Act, warning that unauthorized use constitutes impersonation and could result in legal action.
“This is unlawful, deceptive, and shows disregard for the nation’s laws,” Keyamo said. “You cannot falsely present yourself as a serving official by using symbols reserved for government representatives.”
The minister also criticized Atiku’s recent departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which coincided with the mourning period following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Keyamo described the timing as inappropriate and politically motivated.
“Stepping down during a time of national grief reflects a lack of compassion,” he added. “It creates a negative impression among Nigerians.”
As a senior lawyer and government official, Keyamo stressed his duty to uphold the law and protect national symbols.
He concluded with a firm warning: “Take this as a final caution.”
