A Nigerian man, Abubakar Mohammed Aboki, has been arraigned in Abuja after being extradited from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for allegedly defrauding an international car dealer of $307,500 (approximately N470 million). The Federal High Court in Abuja remanded him on six counts, including criminal breach of trust, obtaining money under false pretenses, forgery, and money laundering.
According to a statement from the Nigeria Police Force on Thursday, Aboki was extradited on May 23, 2025, following his involvement in a transnational fraud scheme. He allegedly posed as a luxury car exporter, deceiving the dealer by claiming to ship high-end vehicles from Dubai to Nigeria.
Investigations revealed that instead of fulfilling the agreement, Aboki reportedly diverted the funds for personal use and provided a fake Bill of Lading to cover his tracks.
The court has ordered his remand at the Keffi Correctional Facility in Nasarawa State until his bail hearing on July 17, 2025.
The police emphasized their dedication to transparency, stating, "The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to upholding justice and accountability. Aboki’s extradition and prosecution demonstrate our resolve to combat international fraud and protect victims of financial crimes."
