The Nigerian Senate has denied rumors of a disagreement between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, describing recent claims of a heated exchange during a closed-door meeting as unfounded.
In a statement released on Sunday, Senate spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu, who chairs the Committee on Media and Public Affairs, explained that the supposed dispute—linked to discussions on the Senate’s annual recess—was a distortion of normal legislative proceedings.
“These reports are entirely untrue,” Adaramodu stated. “They misrepresent standard parliamentary practices where lawmakers engage in robust debates to thoroughly examine issues before making decisions.”
He stressed that discussions within the Senate, whether in plenary or committee sessions, should not be mistaken for conflicts among leaders. Adaramodu noted that such deliberations are essential for informed decision-making in the interest of Nigeria’s over 230 million citizens.
The Senate’s clarification aims to dispel speculation and reinforce solidarity among its leadership as it carries out its legislative functions.
