Police in Niger State have apprehended eight individuals in connection with separate cases of illegal mining and armed robbery in the Minna area.
According to a statement from the Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, a sting operation was conducted on August 18th at an illegal mining site near Mechanic Bye-pass. The operation, led by the Divisional Police Officer, resulted in the arrest of four suspects: Samaila Nuhu (20), Ahmad Mohammed (17), Musa Aliyu (20), and Umar Salihu (47).
Authorities reportedly seized mining equipment, including three diggers, six shovels, and ten headpans from the site, while other individuals allegedly fled. The arrested suspects are currently under investigation pending prosecution.
In a separate incident, police from the Tudun-Wada Division are investigating a reported armed robbery on Fadama Mandela Road, Sauka-Kahuta. Victims stated that on the evening of August 18th, approximately 16 assailants attacked them and stole valuable items.
