Acclaimed Nigerian culinary expert Hilda Baci has unveiled plans to break the world record for preparing the largest single pot of Jollof rice, a beloved West African dish.
The event is scheduled to take place on September 12, 2025, at Muri Okunola Park in Victoria Island, Lagos. The attempt will be the main attraction of a larger cultural festival designed to honor Nigerian cuisine, music, and community spirit.
Baci rose to international prominence in May 2023 after securing the Guinness World Record for the longest individual cooking marathon. In a social media post, she framed this new endeavor as a celebration of her heritage, calling Jollof rice "the heartbeat of West Africa."
The ambitious project, developed over two years with backing from a major Nigerian brand, will utilize a custom-built pot measuring six meters in both width and height. Baci stated that the goal extends beyond winning another certificate; it is about showcasing Nigerian culture and resilience on the world stage.
While her previous marathon record was later broken, Baci is moving forward with this new challenge as a way to continue promoting her nation's gastronomy. The event is expected to attract large crowds of food lovers and cultural enthusiasts for what could become a historic moment in the culinary world.
