Pro-Jonathan Group Appeals to Former President to Run in 2027 Election

A political pressure group named "Bring Back Our Goodluck" has publicly urged former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan to enter the 2027 presidential race.

The group's National Coordinator, Grema Kyari, stated during a press conference in Kano that Nigerians were misguided during the 2015 election when they voted out Jonathan's administration. He claimed the former president represents the surest way to overcome the nation's current challenges.

Kyari asserted that the previous administration made false promises that were never realized, leading to widespread hardship. He contrasted the present economic difficulties with the era under Jonathan, which he described as a time of greater stability, lower food prices, and successful youth initiatives.

Highlighting Jonathan's history of inclusive governance, Kyari suggested the former leader is the ideal figure to unite the country. He also called on other prominent opposition figures to support Jonathan’s potential candidacy for the sake of national recovery.

The campaign, which started in the north-east, is now active in the north-west, a region noted for its significant political and commercial influence. The appeal ended with a direct message to Jonathan, encouraging him to “choose the people” in 2027.
