Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has expressed optimism that the legal situation concerning the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, will be settled through an administrative process, leading to his release.
The Governor's assurance follows a recent private visit to Kanu at the Sokoto Correctional Centre. According to a statement from his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, Governor Otti described their discussions as fruitful.
He revealed that efforts to secure the IPOB leader's freedom, which began shortly after his own inauguration in 2023, have now been escalated. During the meeting, Governor Otti urged Kanu to remain resilient and calm, reassuring him that the prolonged diplomatic engagements were progressing.
"The Governor enjoined Kanu to remain calm but strong, assuring that the issue will be resolved administratively and that he, Mazi Kanu, will regain his freedom," the statement detailed.
Governor Otti also noted his satisfaction with the supportive stance of the Sultan of Sokoto regarding the need for Kanu's release and the reduction of regional tensions.
