Former US President Donald Trump has strongly criticised the 68th Annual Grammy Awards and threatened to take legal action against comedian and host Trevor Noah over remarks made during the live broadcast.
In multiple posts shared on his Truth Social platform shortly after the ceremony, Trump described the awards show as “virtually unwatchable” and accused Noah of making defamatory statements during his monologue. He also criticised CBS, saying the network was fortunate to no longer air what he termed “garbage.”
The controversy followed a joke made by Noah while presenting the Song of the Year award. The host remarked that the prize was highly sought after, “almost as much as Trump wants Greenland,” before adding a reference to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein and his private island, implying Trump needed “a new island to hang out with Bill Clinton.” Epstein died in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges.
Reacting to the comment, Trump denied ever visiting Epstein’s island or being associated with it in any way. He insisted that the claim was false and defamatory, stating that he had never previously been accused of such by the media.
Trump went on to describe Noah as “talentless” and “a total loser,” comparing him unfavourably to late-night host Jimmy Kimmel. He warned that he was prepared to instruct his lawyers to pursue legal action, adding that others who had been sued by him could attest to the seriousness of such consequences.
The remarks have since generated widespread reactions online, further fuelling debate around political satire, celebrity commentary, and the boundaries of humour at major award ceremonies.
