President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerian citizens living abroad to consider returning home and contributing to the nation's development.
Speaking at an event with the Nigerian community in Yokohama, Japan, on the sidelines of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), the President stated that the country requires the expertise and resources of its diaspora to build a stronger and more prosperous nation.
In a statement, the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, reported that Tinubu acknowledged the fundamental right of individuals to live abroad but emphasized the economic opportunities now emerging in Nigeria. He appealed to citizens not to stay away, stating, “Your contribution is very much needed. If you stay away, who will build it?”
The President described leadership as a combination of visionary thinking and practical action to foster stability, unity, and growth. He also encouraged the diaspora community to act as ambassadors for Nigeria, promoting a positive image of the country abroad.
Tinubu concluded by stressing the importance of collective effort, saying that working together is essential for Nigeria to achieve its leadership potential.
