The Obidient Movement has dismissed claims of a conflict between Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, and the party’s Acting National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, labeling the reports as unfounded.
Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the movement’s National Coordinator, clarified that Obi remains fully committed to the Labour Party under Usman’s leadership. He referenced Obi’s recent appearance at the campaign launch for the party’s Anambra State gubernatorial candidate, Dr. George Moghalu, as proof of his loyalty.
“Peter Obi has repeatedly stated that he is a member of the Labour Party under Senator Usman’s leadership and supports all candidates who secured the party’s tickets,” Tanko said in a statement on Wednesday.
He dismissed allegations of betrayal as false and accused political opponents of spreading misinformation to create division. Tanko emphasized that Usman and other party leaders were fully aware of Obi’s involvement in the Anambra event and supported his participation.
“Peter Obi is a man of his word, and his support for Dr. Moghalu aligns with his principles,” Tanko added.
The movement’s coordinator stressed that only verified party officials have addressed the matter, signaling a move away from divisive politics. He urged the public to ignore the rumors, calling them baseless attempts to fuel controversy.
Tanko reaffirmed the Labour Party’s commitment to unity, stating, “Our priority is clear—strengthening our movement, uniting the Labour Party, and working toward a better Nigeria.”
