Vice President Shettima Heads to London to Escort Former President Buhari's Remains for Burial

Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Nigeria for London on an official mission assigned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. His task is to accompany the remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari back to Nigeria for burial arrangements.  

The trip follows President Tinubu's directive, underscoring the federal government's commitment to according the late leader a dignified homecoming and final rites. Shettima is expected to lead a delegation that will work closely with Nigerian and British authorities to ensure a smooth repatriation process.  

Sources indicate that the former president's body will be flown back to Abuja in the coming days, where preparations for a state funeral are underway. The federal government has declared a period of national mourning, with flags to be flown at half-mast nationwide in honor of the deceased statesman.
